Applications are officially open for the 2027 Berwyn Shops season, giving local entrepreneurs a chance to take their businesses from online sales, farmers markets, and pop-up events into their very own storefronts.
Have you ever dreamed of opening your own shop but weren't quite ready to commit to a traditional retail space? Berwyn Shops might be exactly the opportunity you've been looking for.
Located at 6931 Roosevelt Road in Berwyn, this colorful collection of 12 cottage-style storefronts has been helping small businesses take their next big step since 2022.
Now, the Berwyn Development Corporation (BDC) is looking for its next group of entrepreneurs for the 2027 season. Applications are open through January 4, 2027, at 11:59 p.m.
A Small Shop With Big Possibilities
Berwyn Shops is more than a collection of adorable, brightly colored buildings. It's a small-business incubator designed to give entrepreneurs real retail experience without the expense and long-term commitment of a traditional storefront.
Each selected vendor receives access to a 12-by-15-foot retail space equipped with electricity and Wi-Fi. Participants also benefit from business workshops, mentorship, marketing support, and opportunities to connect with fellow entrepreneurs.
Whether you're selling handmade jewelry, vintage finds, clothing, artwork, beauty products, home décor, or specialty foods, the program could provide an opportunity to introduce your business to a whole new audience.
For entrepreneurs who have built a following online or through local markets, it's an opportunity to see what operating a physical retail location might look like.
How Much Does It Cost?
According to the current Berwyn Shops application FAQ, the seasonal rental cost is $4,000, paid in eight monthly installments of $500.
That gives selected business owners access to a dedicated retail space for the season, along with promotional and educational resources.
Vendors are responsible for their own merchandise, furnishings, displays, decorations, and any additional equipment needed to operate their businesses. Applicants should review the 2027 vendor agreement to confirm all costs and obligations.
Who Can Apply?
Berwyn Shops encourages applications from makers, artisans, retailers, food vendors, and established businesses interested in expanding their reach.
A business plan, federal Employer Identification Number (EIN), high-resolution product photographs, and supporting financial information are required as part of the application.
Food vendors should note that the shops do not have running water. Food and beverages must be prepackaged or prepared off-site.
Applicants are evaluated by a community jury, which considers business plans, application responses, and the variety of merchandise offered.
Important Dates for 2027
Application deadline: January 4, 2027, at 11:59 p.m.
Season begins: April 30, 2027
Season ends: December 19, 2027
Selected vendors are expected to operate during designated Friday, Saturday, and Sunday hours, participate in business training, and attend required meetings throughout the season.
