The final weekend of August is going out with a bang.
Right here in Berwyn, hundreds of classic cars take over historic Route 66 for one of the city's signature events. Oak Park is closing out its summer concert season, Brookfield has another Friday night block party, Riverside is exploring its architectural history, and Chicago has everything from Asian street food and fine art to House music, Kesha and Miranda Lambert.
Basically, staying home is going to require some effort.
Here’s what’s happening this weekend, starting close to home and working our way out.
🚗 SATURDAY'S BIG ONE: BERWYN ROUTE 66 CAR SHOW
33rd Annual WeatherTech Berwyn Rt. 66 Car Show
📍 Ogden Avenue, Oak Park Ave. to Ridgeland Ave., Berwyn

⏰ Show: approximately 10 AM–4 PM
🚘 Vehicle entry begins at 7 AM

If you're only going to one thing this weekend, Berwyn makes a pretty strong case for keeping it local.
Historic Route 66 becomes one enormous outdoor car show Saturday as classics, hot rods, customs, muscle cars and more line Ogden Avenue between Oak Park and Ridgeland.
And with the Route 66 Centennial underway, this year's event has a little extra significance: Berwyn gets to celebrate 100 years of the Mother Road right on the Mother Road itself.

7–10 AM — Show vehicle entry
10 AM — Show officially opens & judging begins
10 AM — National Anthem and kickoff procession
11 AM — Rick Saucedo as Elvis
1:30 PM — Lake Effect
3 PM — Split-the-Pot winner announced
3–4 PM — Awards ceremony
Food, drinks, local businesses and live entertainment round out the day. The event is rain or shine with no rain date.

Movies in the Park: A Minecraft Movie

The Park District of Oak Park has rescheduled A Minecraft Movie for Friday night at Scoville Park.
Bring a blanket, some snacks and grab a spot on the lawn.
🎨 BUCKTOWN ARTS FEST
📍 Senior Citizens Memorial Park, Bucktown

The 39th annual Bucktown Arts Fest takes place this weekend, Saturday, August 29, and Sunday, August 30, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM daily. Located at Holstein Park and the adjacent Senior Citizens Memorial Park (2200 N. Oakley Ave., Chicago, IL), this grassroots neighborhood tradition is entirely free to attend with no mandatory or suggested donation at the gates
🎨 Festival Highlights
Juried Artists: Explore works from roughly 160 to 190 independent makers showcasing jewelry, ceramics, oil painting, photography, and textiles
Live Entertainment: Enjoy continuous performances across two dedicated music stages, featuring regional jazz ensembles, local bands, and immersive arts programming.
Local Eats & Drinks: Grab food truck fare, craft beer, and sangria while you wander the park grounds.
Family & Community Fun: The park features a dedicated Kids Tent packed with crafts, storytelling, magic shows, balloon twisting, and typewriter poetry.
The Barktown Dog Parade: A festival favorite taking place Sunday morning where neighbor pups parade for special prizes.
All-Volunteer Non-Profit: The festival is run completely by community volunteers, and 100% of the proceeds from artist fees, merch, and beverage sales go directly to fund arts education at Holstein Park and local schools.
🐼 PANDA FEST CHICAGO

Panda Fest is essentially an excuse to show up hungry.
The traveling Asian food and culture festival brings 100+ food vendors, more than 200 street-food options and 40+ merchandise vendors to Butler Field downtown, along with cultural performances and plenty of panda-themed everything.
🎟️ General admission is listed at $14, with Saturday admission slightly higher; VIP options are also available.

Chicago isn't just a city that likes House music.
House music was born here.
The Chicago House Music Festival & Conference celebrates that legacy with four days of free performances, dance, discussions and programming around downtown.
Saturday programming begins at 1 PM, with the festival continuing Sunday and ultimately closing along the Chicago Riverwalk.

🏛️ RIVERSIDE OLMSTED WALKING TOUR
South Divisions
📍 Meet at Riverside Train Station, 90 Bloomingbank Rd.

Here's the quieter Sunday option — and one of the most interesting things happening close to Berwyn.
The Olmsted Society explores Riverside's South Division, including winding streets along the Des Plaines River and homes connected to architects including Frank Lloyd Wright, William LeBaron Jenney and Calvert Vaux.
If you've ever driven around Riverside thinking, why does this place look completely different from every other suburb?, this is your tour.
Schedule: Tours run monthly from May through October, typically departing at 2:00 PM on the last Sunday of the month.
Route: The tours alternate monthly between the North Division and South Division of the village to showcase different historic home clusters and river vistas.
Departure Point: All guided tours meet at the Riverside Train Station at 90 Bloomingbank Rd, Riverside, IL.
Cost: General admission tickets are $26.68 ($20.00 for Olmsted Society members and $21.44 for seniors 62+) and should be purchased online via Ticketstripe.
🎸 ONE LAST SUNDAY IN SCOVILLE PARK
Harmonix — Oak Park Summer Concert Season Finale

Oak Park's Sunday concert series wraps up for 2026 with Harmonix, playing rock, pop and party covers.
Bring chairs or a blanket and take advantage of one last summer evening in Scoville Park.

🖤 BLACK ON THE BLOCK
📍 Stadium Green at Soldier Field

More than 100 Black-owned brands come together outside Soldier Field for a huge marketplace featuring shopping, food, DJs, performers, a kids zone, games and giveaways.
🎟️ Advance tickets start around $17 through the event's app, with kids 12 and under admitted free.
Event Highlights
Vendor Marketplace: Over 100 Black-owned brands and entrepreneurs from across the country will be showcasing and selling their products.
Live Entertainment: Emceed by Taylor Bennett, the festival features live music, performances, and sounds from local DJs like Ryan Moses, EvieTheCool, Francesca Eva, and DJ Ca$h Era.
Food & Games: The event includes a full food court, multiple bars, giveaways, activating games, and a dedicated kids' zone.

Saturday belongs to Berwyn.
