If you only pick one suburban weekend to get out this summer… this is it.
Because La Grange isn’t just throwing a carnival.

They’re stacking three straight days of rides, food, and downtown energy with the 80th Annual Pet Parade.
One of the most iconic, weirdly awesome, and genuinely wholesome traditions in all of Chicagoland.
This isn’t a “stop by for 20 minutes” event.
This is a plan your whole weekend around it kind of weekend.
🎠 THE CARNIVAL: MAY 29–31, 2026
For three days, Harris Avenue (right in downtown La Grange) turns into a full carnival midway.

📍 Location
Harris Ave (between La Grange Rd & Ashland Ave)
📅 Dates
Friday, May 29
Saturday, May 30
Sunday, May 31
⏰ Hours
Friday: 5 PM – 10 PM
Saturday: 12 PM – 10 PM
Sunday: 12 PM – 9 PM
🎡 What You’re Getting
Full carnival rides (kids + thrill rides)
Classic midway games
Funnel cakes, lemonade, all the chaos you want
Bright LED rides that hit different at night
A packed downtown with patios, bars, and restaurants steps away
👉 Pro move: Go at night. The lights + crowd energy = completely different vibe.
🐾 THE MAIN EVENT: 80TH ANNUAL PET PARADE (SATURDAY MORNING)

This is what separates La Grange from every other carnival.
📅 Saturday, May 30
⏰ 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM
🎭 Theme: Marching Through The Decades
This isn’t just people walking dogs.
This is:
Pets in full costumes
Kids in themed outfits
Community floats
Marching bands
Absolute chaos in the best way
And it’s been happening since 1947.
Eighty years of tradition… and it still pulls huge crowds every single year.
🚆 THE SECRET WEAPON: BNSF METRA FROM BERWYN AND BEYOND
This is where you win.
Skip parking. Skip traffic. Skip the headache.
Just:
Hop on the BNSF Metra
Get off at La Grange Road
Walk straight into the carnival
That’s it.
You can literally turn this into:
A day trip
A night out
Or a full weekend bounce-back
👉 This is one of the easiest “no car needed” events in the west suburbs.
🔥 HOW TO DO THIS WEEKEND RIGHT
OPTION 1: The Full Saturday Play
9:30 AM → Pet Parade
11:30 AM → Walk downtown / coffee / brunch
Afternoon → Carnival rides + games
Night → Lights, food, drinks, chaos
OPTION 2: Friday Night Kickoff
Train in after work
Walk straight into the carnival
Ride + eat + hang out
Late dinner downtown
OPTION 3: Sunday Chill Mode
Skip crowds
Show up midday
Ride wristbands (usually best deals)
Easy walk + early dinner
🌆 WHY THIS WEEKEND IS DIFFERENT
Because it’s not trying too hard.
It’s not some massive overpriced festival.
It’s:
A real downtown
Real local businesses
A 80-year-old tradition
Kids running around with giant stuffed animals
Adults pretending they didn’t just eat 3 funnel cakes
This is the kind of weekend that reminds you why people love living in the west suburbs.

Really liked how this post kept things simple and didn’t drag on with a bunch of extra jargon. It felt like someone explaining it the way they’d talk in a chat, so I could skim and still get the point. Halfway through I clicked around https://newimage.io/ out of curiosity, and it gave me the same kind of clean, no-drama feel—nothing shouting at you, just straightforward stuff. I’m not usually patient with messy pages, but this one (and that site) didn’t make me hunt for the important bits. The spacing and short chunks help a lot when you’re scrolling on a phone. Also, the headings are easy to spot and the layout stays tidy instead of turning into a wall of…
